Hi folks! Thank you for your patience with these results <3 Life's been busy, dA uncooperative but finally here we are.

Before I get onto the results I want to thoroughly commend you all on such beautiful entries! It has been difficult to distinguish the placings in the effort-based classes and I can see the effort that has gone into each and every one. You have all managed to capture the essence of the Tweed Valley which is what my real goal was with this show, so thank you! <3

I will not leave individual feedback about each piece on this journal itself (mostly because dA journals suck), but I will endeavour to comment on each one of the pieces in the coming week or two c:

Now... onto the results!

Update 18/4/23: I have been having some trouble with dA on my laptop at the moment. Once I manage to resolve this I will post up the results.

The snow has settled over the Tweed Valley just in time for the inaugural Winter Cup!

We are excited to welcome competitors from across the globe to the Scottish Borders for a jam-packed weekend of 'cool' competition in the town of Peebles. The main feature of the winter cup is our CCI-L***** class which weaves through the landscape of the valley, with competitors battling it out to win the coveted Tweed Valley Winter Cup. For those horses and riders that also want to get in on the action but are a little green still for this frosty field, the CCI-S** competition offers the chance to get their feet wet.

Peebles is also the home town of the legendary Scott Brash, so as such we couldn't come to such a location and forget about the show jumpers. Consequently, the Winter Cup will also feature 2 show jumping competitions, a CSI**** and CSI*.

Location: Peebles, Scottish Borders

Snowy Peebles (inspo)

>>Click here for more reference images<<

The cross country course takes in the best of the scenery from the west side of a snowy Peebles. The course largely follows the path of the river Tweed, which runs through the heart of the town, but takes in many more exhilarating sites such as the breathtaking Neidpath Viaduct and spooky Neidpath Tunnel which are remnants of the old railway line. The course also climbs through a small forest which is mostly home to dog walkers unlike the other forests in the area which host many international mountain bike competitions. The route then follows a long sweeping slope down to cross Manor brig and the bridge across the tweed. This then follows the riverside, looping under the Neidpath Viaduct, and then up and over this. Once over the viaduct, the path enters the 1/4 mile Neidpath Tunnel. This is a very dark tunnel, and normally while in the middle you cannot see the light at either end. However, for the sake of the scaredy cats (riders!) the tunnel has been dimly lit for this occasion. The course begins and ends in a local park. The length of the course is fairly snowy, with a few inches lying in most places except under the tree canopies. The snow has been cleared from some paths though, so you are welcome to depict whatever footing suits your artwork!

CCI-L***** XC Route

CCI-S** XC Route

The main arena itself is of grass footing, very spacious and nestled in the valley with a view of the rolling hills of Peebles. This location is approximately a 20 minute hack from the cross country start/finish.

Please note that there is room for interpretation in the set course route, for example snow footing, small deviations from the course and obstacle design.

Judging

Host-judged classes

There is no set matrix for this show. I want everyone to enjoy creating their artwork and not worry about tick-box requirements like 'detail' and extra images. I would really love to see entries that try something new, an emphasis on a new skill, medium, story-telling etc... the list is boundless! This is why I have tried to provide lots of reference photos but also provide freedom for designing your entry, so you can create your own composition. My personal tastes in artwork involve atmosphere and composition, with pieces where the background and foreground are tied together well and capture the atmosphere of the area. This area is very google-able and I have also tried to add lots of references of the area (although granted there isn't a lot of snow in these pictures, sorry!) If you had a main focus for your piece, something you tried etc then please specify this in the description of your artwork :) I will read this, plus any stories (which are not mandatory)!

RNG-judged classes

If there are less than 10 entries, the class will be filled with ghost horses and RNG'd for the placing. If there are more than 10 entries, no ghost horses will be added.

My only request for all entries are to please credit your references, and follow the very minimal rules listed near the top of this journal.

:new: EXTENDED 2 WEEKS!! :new:

That's right! Put the tablet pens down and pick up the pencils, this show is for
 traditional art only!
You don't need any fancy supplies or previous traditional experience, this show is all about fun using the supplies you have to hand. A pencil or pen, eraser and paper are all that is required!
This show is to celebrate spring in Scotland, along with my main character Eleanor's birthday :)

Running: 29th March - 14th JUNE 2020 with a 24-hour grace period until the end of the 15th June. Judging will begin on 16th.
Event Type: Dressage, Show Jumping & Eventing

Class/Classes: Pick your level. Novice - 5*

Restrictions: None

This show is sanctioned by:
:iconh-i-e-f:

Want sanctions for any other societies? Shoot me a note!

RULES

1. Your entry for the class must be in 100% traditional media. This includes but is not limited to pencils, pens, paint and pastels. Entries should be photographed/scanned (if you need tips on the best way to do this, message me) and can have minor editing digitally to look like the original artwork (ie cropping, contrast, curves etc).
2. If you would like to create extra images these do NOT need to be traditionally created. Byt why not try sketching or lining your image traditionally then colouring it digitally?
3.  Extra images are not mandatory but always lovely to see.
4. A horse may only enter each discipline once, however, there is no limit on the number of entries per artist due to the mixed levels.
5. Entries must be at least 3/4 body to be judged - less than this will result in disqualification
6. All equine breeds allowed, including player-made
7. Points will be deducted for not following class rules
8. Horse name, Rider name and stable name along with links to REFS must be included in the description of your entry picture.
9. Entries should be posted in the comments of THIS journal. Please list the class you are entering and the LEVEL in case the class is split.
10. BE KIND. To one another, and to the judge. It's okay to be disappointed/excited about results but be considerate of others. Got an issue? Note me.

LOCATION

This show is held at Oak Brooke Stables, based in the very north of Scotland. If you would like to google our location to get a better sense of scenery and to appreciate the beautiful beach a stone's throw away from our doorstep, please google 'Armadale, Sutherland'. We are set across the road from the beach, set back into the landscape. Our facilities also have a small loch named Lochan Bruth which is located next to a woodland area; both which are utilised in the cross country. I'm not going to be too fussy on complete accuracy, but points will be rewarded to those who have captured the essence of this landscape. This show takes place at the end of spring. There will be many sheep, lambs, cows and calves about. Plants in bloom includes gorse, and the heather and shrubbery are beginning to bear bright leaves.
Extra information about specific class locations will be posted under the class information. If you have any questions about what our facilities look like, please comment, note me, or catch me on Discord as Elantair#0047 (for a faster reply use discord!)

WEATHER

Sunrise begins: 4:30am
Sunset begins: 9:30pm

Thursday

A truly beautiful day, reaching a high of 15 degrees celsius with very minimal wind.  A slight mist lies over the sea in the morning, but this dissipates by noon. The day gives way to a clear and still night, with a beautiful sunset.

Friday

The wind turns to the east and the rain starts coming down in sheets. A gusting wind of 30mph will make this a challenging day on the cross country course, but the footing is generally good just getting muddier throughout the day. A high of 10 degrees but the wind chill brings it down to 5 degrees. A sea mist blows off the ocean and onto the beach. A dark and wild night ensues.

Saturday

The wind still remains from Friday, but the rain has dissipated just leaving moody grey skies, the sun trying to break through. A high of 11 degrees as the wind settles throughout the day.

CLASS INFORMATION

CLASSES MAY BE SPLIT BY LEVEL DEPENDING ON ENTRY NUMBERS

Dressage

General Information
- Riders must wear formal attire
- Horses' manes should be braided and they should be turned out to a high standard

Location
The arena has been set up on the left-hand side of the loch, just off the edge of the map. This means the loch plus forest is visible. To the other side are some paddocks, but as the land gets higher this turns to moorland, landscape typical for the location. The dressage fence is white, and like this. The letters are displayed on white flowerpots like this, with yellow/orange flowers and green foliage. The footing is grass.

Requirements
- Horses must be aged 3 or over
- No previous experience required for horses
- Please keep the tack appropriate for the level you are depicting, ie. no double bridles and spurs for novice horses.
-Riders may wear crash helmets only, no tophats
- No whips or polo wraps
- Any movement from modern dressage tests can be depicted, including halt and salute

Show Jumping

General Information
- Riders must wear formal attire
- Horses should be well turned out,  braiding optional.
- Jumps are to be set at a height suitable for the horse/rider combination

Location
The arena has been set up on the left hand side of the loch, just off the edge of the map. This means the loch plus forest is visible. To the other side are some paddocks, but as the land gets higher this turns to moorland, landscape typical for the location. The arena is grass footed and marked with white temporary fencing like this (not the dressage fencing, but the simple rail fencing behind it). Spectators can watch from behind this fencing, standing only.

Requirements
- Horses must be aged 3 or over
- No previous experience required for horses
- Martingale/breastplate and leg protection recommended
- Crash helmets mandatory

The Jumps
For this competition I am not providing any set jumps, therefore you are free to let your creative juices flow! Ideally jumps should be based around Scotland and springtime. If you have any questions about jump design feel free to shoot me a message.

3-Day Eventing

This eventing competition is going to run a bit different, but hopefully this will come as a relief to most! This eventing competition only requires ONE image. This image can of any of the 3 phases. Information for the dressage and show jumping phases are the same as the individual competitions. The cross country information will be posted below.

XC for the 3-Day Eventers

General Information
- Riders may wear any colours they want, but must wear a body protector/air jacket and crash helmet
- Horses should be well turned out. Mane braiding optional
- Please adjust jump heights to meet the horse/rider level

Location
The XC track takes place all around OBS stables, with a loop out to the beach and then back. There are jumps located in the shallows of the loch and also in the small forest behind the loch as well as in the open countryside/moorland. The course is laid out using the typical white rope and posts seen on most courses.

The Jumps
You are completely free to design your own jump, ideally with a Scottish or rustic theme.

JUDGING

Judging for SJ, dressage and 3DE is effort based.
I will be taking into account your previous experience with traditional media, and before judging each entry I will have a look at your gallery. This is just to get a rough idea about how established you are as a traditional artist, NOT to judge your entry against your gallery. The aim of this show is to have fun and not worry about placings!

Show Journal

A massive thank you to everyone who took the time to complete an entry for my show! I was truly humbled by the level of work and effort everyone put in to this fun little show and I love absolutely every entry that was entered. That unfortunately made judging quite difficult and all the scores were very close! :'D

A couple of notes:
I made the decision to split the dressage class into two editions: "high" and "low". This has meant nobody will place lower than third.
Prize art will be completed as soon as I can, there is no need to note me. It will hopefully be completed soon but I am a full-time student and professional artist so please bear with!
